Body Fit for the Summer

Summer is just two months away and so now is the perfect time to start thinking about getting our bodies ready for bathing-suit season.  I always find I start looking at my body at this time of year and saying, “Hey, stranger.  Haven’t seen you for a while, what is going on?” I have had what we call “Stage 1” cellulite since I was a teenager- I don’t know why we use such serious sounding language but we do!  Fortunately, it has not as of yet progressed, meaning you can only start to see any dimpling.  Most women though would like to be a little smoother, firmer, shapely in the bottom region.  There is no magic bullet for body contouring and tightening- it is a combination of exercise and maintaining your own healthy weight.  There is a combination though of therapies and tricks you can try to give you that extra measure of confidence.  Here are our 5 tips for getting your best body/backside for the summer:

Non-Invasive Body Tightening

Befores and Afters (Courtesy of Venus Freeze)
We’ve been using the Venus Freeze body tightening and contouring system effectively now for the past couple of years.  It uses a combination of heat, radio frequency and magnetic pulses to break down the pockets of fat and rebuild the connective tissues that support the skin like collagen and elastin fibers.  Generally, through a series of 4 + treatments, patients experience what feels like a warm massage.  Patients do need to be at a stable weight and to make sure they otherwise have a health lifestyle.  Most have seen noticeable tightening of the area with their skin looking smoother.  Many have also reported that their jeans fit better too with actual reduction in the circumference of their thighs! Maintenance treatments can be done periodically to keep things in form.

Body Firming Topical Protocols

For those who are really serious about getting ready for the summer, we are introducing our Body Strategist Protocol, which can ideally be used as take-home products in between your Venus Freeze Treatments and to maintain your results.  Anyone of the products can of course be used alone but we decided to offer the treatments with the 3 product kit to get people started (just for the month of April, as our hot ticket promo).  The three products contain ingredients like Fucus an algae designed to super-hydrate the skin.  Adipoless, Adiposlim and caffeine shrink the fat cells by drawing out water.  Black pepper stimulates micro-circulation.  All together, they are designed to generate a lot of heat for the tissues.  You might be a proverbial hot pants but the theory behind the ingredients is sound.

Self-Tanner

This part refers to more the ‘trick’s we mentioned to help reduce the appearance of dimpling.  It’s a mere optical illusion but it is effective.  We’ve been carrying the St. Tropez line of self-tanners because we think they give the most natural looking colour and are the easiest to use.  Their self-applicator mitt really does help apply their traditional self-tanners.  I also like their  wash-off products or their gradual tanners if you are not as comfortable applying.

Massage with Body Oil

I’ve been reading more and more about the benefits of dry body massage. I know the Nordics are big believers and it is the simplest thing to do with a loofah or brush in the shower.  I’ve been just using my hands with the Regenerating Body Oil from Tata Harper. I massage in small circles from my toes up to my heart every day after my shower.  It leaves me with soft, hydrated skin but it also just feels invigorating and calming at the same time!  I always give the backs of my thighs a little extra attention with the hopes of keeping my Stage 1 cellulite at bay.

Gentle Body Detoxification with Food

Most of these other tips involve a lot of body massage and improving lymphatic drainage and circulation.  With anything like that, or when trying to lose weight, I’ve been reading about the importance of ensuring the safe transport of whatever toxin is released through the body.  I’m not one for fasts or cleanses- I’m also not a dietician so I will leave that to your own preference.  I do like the idea of focusing on adding healthy foods into your diet to help facilitate natural passing of toxins.  The following is one of the best explanations I’ve read about how to introduce simple and healthy food items to do just that, click here to read post from Living Pretty, Naturally.  I love that by adding lemons, leafy greens, parsley, cilantro and other items, I’m crowding out the less healthy items easily without focusing on it.  I’ve also been taking a teaspoon of the Greens powder everyday and I’ve personally liked it.  It is one supplement that has worked for me but I always encourage people to do their own research with anything like that.

Share with us if you have any tricks of your own!  We'd love to hear- questions and other comments are always welcome too.

Best,

Sara A. Dudley
