The Amazing Science behind Ectoins…

This next post is inspired by CyberDERM’s newest product called Ectoins Mineral Balm. I secretly call it Miracle Balm (but refrained from putting it on the label) mostly because of the active principal in it…Ectoins.

The story behind the balm goes back to last winter when Dr. Sharyn Laughlin (recently referred to as the First Lady of Lasers…very fitting) went to Innisbrook, Austria for a conference in laser medicine. The Father of laser medicine and her mentor, Dr. Rox Andersen, gave a lecture about how most laser procedures give their results by stimulating Heat Shock Proteins (HSP’s) in the skin. These HSP’s are like chaperone cells in the body and help to stabilize and repair damaged proteins. Most laser procedures use heat or trauma to the skin to force your skin into creating HSP’s. For rejuvenation procedures, this translates into collagen, elastin and fibronectin proteins being rebuilt and solidified. Dr. Laughlin then put it to us to investigate from a formulations perspective what could help facilitate the production of these very important HSP’s. It is an emerging science but we managed to find that Ectoins were our answer.

The Ectoin Mineral Balm is therefore poised to play a huge role at Laserderm in all the various treatments that they do with lasers. Our H20 Reserve also has Ectoins so we will be offering a Pre and Post Surgical package for Laserderm patients that is actually looking to enhance their treatments. Most other balms are used to help with healing but this is a balm with a difference.

Ectoins also bind water to themselves in the skin so the balm is an excellent weekly intensive hydrating treatment for those who are extremely dry and itchy in the winter. Also for all of you skiers out there, the balm is great for sun and wind burn and helps to mitigate UV damage rather than just soothe like Aloe Vera.

So put down the Bag Balm, and someone let Shania know that there is something better out now.

All the Beauty Best,

Sara Dudley
